To Do Today: Chippewa Valley Firecracker

Chippewa Valley Firecracker: A favorite of off-road cyclists from across the state, this race event is fun for the whole helmet-headed family. The Firecraker includes on-site camping, a pasta feed, a kid's zone, an outdoor movie, prize drawings and "lots of SWAG." (That's right, SWAG.) If that doesn't peak your interest, perhaps the names of the trail features will: the switchbacks of Onion, the creek crossings of Rad and Skull, and the seemingly endless rock garden of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. (Awesome.) If you really want a behind-the-scenes look into the world of off-road biking in Wisconsin, the Chippeawa Off Road Bike Association (CORBA) still needs volunteers for the event. Proceeds from the race help fund local trails and mountain bike advocacy efforts. (Lowes Creek County Park, S. Lowes Creek Road, Eau Claire; 12pm; www.chippewaoffroad.org)
