JACK DROUT

Football

Menomonie High School

What does being a good leader mean? Menomonie High School senior Jack Drout knows more than most about being a leader at his age. Jack is a running back and one of the captains of the Menomonie Mustangs varsity football team.

“To be a leader means when things aren’t going well, whether it be in the game or practice, the team looks to follow you,” Jack said. “Anyone can try to lead when things are going well. But when things are hard, that’s when the team really needs a good leader.”

Jack has been playing football since elementary school, and his favorite part is the culture within the team. His regimen is strict: He practices four days a week in the off-season and every day after school during the season.

“...when things are hard, that’s when the team really needs a good leader...”

In the spring, Jack plays in the Prepstar Football League, which has taken him to Indianapolis, New Orleans, and elsewhere to compete in seven-on-seven football tournaments against teams from all over the country.

Outside of football, Jack is also the captain of the school’s hockey team, is on the track team, is class vice president, is a member of the National Honor Society, helps coach youth football and hockey teams, and enjoys deer hunting.

Last year as a junior, Jack made Big Rivers All-Conference in football, hockey, and track. After high school, Jack is planning on attending college in North Dakota and majoring in commercial aviation in the hopes of becoming a pilot.
