Menomonie High School

Emma Dean, a senior at Menomonie High School, puts no less than 100% into everything she does.

That is just one of the reasons she was captain of the school’s varsity softball team for the past three years as well as captain of the tennis team this year.

“I got hurt my sophomore season when I was first nominated for captain and so I think that helped me step up and realize that (being captain) doesn’t mean just being a good player on the field, it also means encouraging my teammates and having those leadership skills to help excel my team and help them along the way,” Emma said.

Emma has been playing softball for the past 15 years, and when she’s not rockin’ it on third base for her high school team she also plays in the Minnesota Elite softball league in the summer and started the Menomonie Jr. Mustangs Softball Program – which was held for the second time this year on Oct. 21-22 – to raise money for her team while also giving younger players a chance to hone their skills with the high school team.

She’s just as dedicated to her studies as she is to sports: Emma is currently earning college credits at Chippewa Valley Technical College so she can graduate high school with her associate degree in business. She hopes to go on to major in sports management and to work on a professional sports team someday.

Her extracurriculars are numerous, as she is class vice president for the Student Council, a DECA officer, part of the ski club, and serves on the Graduation Committee. She interns for the Triple Threat Training facility in Downsville and the ETS fitness center in Menomonie.

Emma also has a passion for baking and has her own small business baking cupcakes for weddings, banquets, and other occasions.
