A DAY OFF IN EAU CLAIRE. On Saturday, May 30, Phoebe Bridgers performed a one night pop-up performance at the Pablo Center at the Confluence (128 Graham Ave., Eau Claire). Wristbands (pictured above) were fitted to each individual's wrist on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The month of June (well, it was really the last day of May, but we’ll count it) began with not only a mini heatwave, but a moment in time many of the Valley’s indie-folk lovers will remember for a long time: Phoebe Bridgers’ surprise one-night, no-phones concert.

That unforgettable Saturday morning – as impromptu flyers announcing the show appeared across the lampposts and small business doors of downtown Eau Claire – I saw the Valley in its true form: community members of all ages, friends and strangers, coming together to celebrate the magic happening right here in our town, at our premiere arts center.

In many ways, the same communal excitement can be seen when families and friends (and our entire city) celebrates its great food and drinks. It makes the timing of Burger Week – slated for June 20-29 – pretty perfect, if you ask me (learn more about the collaboration on pg. 32 in print or online).

From burgers to Bridgers, there seems to be something for everyone to rally around in the Chippewa Valley.

So, if you happen to spot me at one of the participating burger joints – I plan on enjoying a Chips N’ Dip burger – consider it your invitation to ask about that secret concert (or find out which Phoebe Bridgers song is my favorite).
