'Barstow & Grand' Welcomes Submissions For Issue 10
local literary journal moves to compensate published writers, uplift upper Midwest stories – with a deadline of April 30 to submit for publication
This year, the local literary journal Barstow & Grand celebrates its 10th anniversary and with it, has already opened the floodgates for area fiction, non-fiction, poetry and prose authors to submit their works for publication.
Barstow & Grand was founded with the single intention to support writers of the Chippewa Valley and has continued to do so for emerging and established writers over the past decade.
Consistent with this mission over the years, organizers and curators invite submissions that relate in some way to the upper Midwest.
“We intentionally decline to define either ‘connection’ or ‘Upper Midwest,’ instead relying on our authors to make their own distinctions,” the literary journal website reads. “As a hometown journal, we will always remain committed to the authors of western Wisconsin, but we look forward to expanding our literary community.”
The submission window for issue 10 is now open, from March 1 to April 30. For the first time, all authors accepted for the forthcoming issue will receive payment for their contributions. Accepted authors will be compensated $40 per piece and will also receive a complimentary copy of issue 10, along with promotion through the Chippewa Valley Writers Guild (CVWG).
So, Chippewa Valley creatives and dear readers: What stories or ideas will you bring to life for the next issue?
