HAND-WRITTEN GRATITUDE: ‘Thank a Farmer’ Through This Local Event
Wisconsin Farmers Union is inviting folks to come together in Chippewa Falls and write some old-school thank-you notes
When’s the last time you sat down to handwrite a letter to someone? It’s most likely been awhile – or for some youngin’ out there, maybe they’ve never done it (eesh, we’re old) – and if there was ever a time to do it, the wintry holiday months make perfect sense. And if you’re looking for some supplies and a space to do so, Chippewa Falls’ Market on River has you covered.
From 4:30-6pm on Tuesday, Nov. 18, Market On River (128 W. River St., Chippewa Falls) will be hosting its “Thank a Farmer Letter Writing Party” event, providing folks with letter-writing supplies to spread some joy this holiday season – specifically to our Wisconsin farmers.
“The purpose of the event is to gather as a community and celebrate the gratitude we have for our food producers,” Wisconsin Farmer Union’s Director of Education, Elizabeth Yost, explained.
“Farmers, especially, have been through a lot this year, and we are hoping to create space for eaters to express their gratitude for the family farms that have filled their bellies this harvest season.”

Individuals and families of just about any age are warmly encouraged to hangout at the Wisconsin Farmers Union (WFU) headquarters – the event will be hosted at Market on River’s second floor space – while practicing some gratitude. All necessary supplies will be provided, including cards and envelopes, a variety of writing utensils, and stickers (feel free to bring your own materials too).
Attendees can write to their favorite farmer or food producer – “maybe your neighbors, favorite stands at the farmers market, or even the folks behind the Wisconsin-grown food you buy at the grocery store,” Yost said – and if you don’t have a particular person in mind, you can select a highlighted WFU member.
Some community conversation about the WFU’s mission and values, light snacks, and beverages will be provided. So, see you there?
