Community Orgs Grants Health Care
Inaugural Community Health Grant Cycle Awards $70K to Eight Local Orgs
Eau Claire Community Foundation, entrusted with funds from the HSHS Heart Hospital and Foundation, announces program's first-ever awardees
After announcing a brand-new grant program this spring – the Community Health Grant – the Eau Claire Community Foundation (ECCF) has announced the awardees of its first cycle.
The Community Health Grant is funded by monies entrusted to ECCF by the HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital and Foundation after the organization pulled out of the region in 2024. The initiative aims to support programs and asset purchases for area organizations which aim to meet the health needs and/or reduce health disparities in the Eau Claire area.
From April-June this spring, nonprofits could apply for grants of up to $10,000 for projects that “align with Catholic values and address crucial community health needs,” a spring media release stated.
On Tuesday, Aug. 19, ECCF announced the inaugural Community Health Grant awardees: Chippewa Valley Free Clinic, Eau Claire-Tenant Landlord Resource Center, Eau Claire Youth Cycling Inc., Feed My People Food Bank, National Alliance on Mental Illness Chippewa Valley (NAMI), NorthLakes Community Clinic, The Community Table, and United Cerebral Palsy of West Central Wisconsin.
“Expanding our grant making is a direct response to the needs we see in our community and a reflection of our commitment to empowering the local nonprofit sector,” ECCF President and CEO, Wes Escondo, stated in a recent media release.
“All applications were carefully reviewed by ECCF’s grant committee to ensure they met community health priorities and the fund’s mission,” the release continued. “We are proud to award over $70,000 in grants (to the eight total awardee organizations.)”
For NAMI Chippewa Valley, one of the grant recipients, the funds will allow the organization to secure and expand its support group offerings. “By training additional facilitators, we will ensure support groups and classes continue as a valuable resource to the community and expand to serve even more individuals,” Tanya Potter, NAMI Chippewa Valley’s executive director, said.
