Them Coulee Boys' latest, much anticipated album, No Fun In The Chrysalis, officially dropped today, Feb. 28. In celebration of the project, the band also released the music video for their Americana radio single "Up Close," clearly filmed throughout the streets of Eau Claire.
The video – filmed literally "on-foot" – shows a ton of familiar locations in Eau Claire, including the Phoenix Park footbridge and The Pablo Center, the South Barstow district, the Chippewa River State Trail, and more. Though we never see the faces of the duo we watch make their way to each other through downtown Eau Claire, the bouncy groove single hooks you with anticipation.
"Put simply, it's a song about making out," Soren Staff said in a recent media release. "Piano, mandolin, banjo, and bass all descend on the jam, building to a crescendo, signifying intimacy of physical attraction that builds – finally – to acting on that impulse. In the end, we want the listener to have fun."
Check out the video below, and swing back to our website next week when we'll share more from Them Coulee Boys:
No Fun In The Chrysalis sees Them Coulee Boys reunited with Grammy Award-winning artist Brian Joseph (Bon Iver, Kathleen Edwards, Sufjan Stevens), recording taking place at The Hive Studios in Eau Claire. The project's first single – and final tune on the 11-song record – "I Am Not Sad" set the tone for the emotional, cathartic new album from Them Coulee Boys.
