Them Coulee Boys – the Chippewa Valley’s favorite bluegrass and folk band – wants to put a smile on your face this Tuesday, Oct. 29. That’s when the Boys are releasing a new single, “I Am Not Sad,” that’s focused on embracing your mental health.

“It’s about celebrating the good days when they come, and recognizing your happiness in the moment,” says Soren Staff, the band’s co-founder and vocalist. “It’s a builder, starting acoustic and slowly building to a jam at the end, where the catharsis of the decision to celebrate your mental health is manifested in screaming electric banjo and mandolin.”

The single is the first taste of a forthcoming album, No Fun In The Chrysalis, which is slated for release Feb. 28. Both the single and album were produced and mixed by Grammy Award winner Brian Joseph at The Hive, his studio in Eau Claire. In addition to Staff and his bandmates – Beau Janke, Jens Staff, Neil Krause, and Stas Hable – the tune and the album feature local virtuoso Ben Lester on pedal steel.
