Another freshened-up Eau Claire athletic facility recently opened: The newly renovated Regis High School gymnasium (2100 Fenwick Ave.) is now in use for prep volleyball and basketball.

The Regis revamp comes just a couple of months after new football fields made their debut at Eau Claire’s two public high schools.

Paul Pedersen, Regis Catholic Schools president, noted how every part of the venue received improvement. "Essentially, a gymnasium is like the living room of a school,” he said. “It’s visible, and in this particular case, the gym simply needed some updating and the time was now."

Roof support beams are newly painted black. A video board faces one end of the court. Pedersen says the board “is as interactive as any TV, where, heck, you could probably play a video game on it, as well.”

Also new: The “Rambler” mascot is at the center of the new floor, a change from the previous “R” logo. “We were excited to put him back out onto the gymnasium floor,” Pedersen says, “and we think it’s a real nice balance between having the ‘R’ in many locations, but also keeping close and staying close with our history, and the fact that ... we are the Ramblers."

Some of the prior 70-year-old court may have a new life: Pedersen believes the school will turn remnants of floor’s wood and former bleachers into memorabilia.
