“Tough As They Crumb” (2023) gingerbread and frosting • From the artist: “Brainstorming for this issue’s special Best of the Holidays cover was easy – getting it done was a whole other story. We wanted something eye-catching and festively iconic, yet nostalgic. With the bit of gingerbread house making knowledge we had and three days of planning, baking, and constructing, a scrumptiously beautiful replica of the The Local Store and Volume One building emerged. Bossman Nick had the great idea to include The Chippewa River Trolley, which ended up being the icing on the cake the cover needed. We hope it puts you in the best of holiday moods just like creating it did for us!”
