Local YMCAs to Offer Free Fitness Program for Cancer Survivors

The Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire YMCAs are offering small group sessions this fall for its LIVESTRONG® program, a free series of classes with certified instructors and personal trainers trained to support cancer survivors. 

LIVESTRONG® is a free 12-week program tailored to the specific needs of cancer survivors who would like to improve their quality of life before, during, and after treatment, a recent media release stated.

The program is organized and run by certified instructors and trainers who have undergone specialized training in the elements of cancer, rehabilitative exercise, and supportive cancer care. The instructors will also guide participants in developing their own health and wellness programs. 

"LIVESTRONG®  helped jump-start me back into physical activity with the use of exercise equipment, bands, yoga, and even pickleball, but also mentally it has been a pick-me-up," a recent participant shared. 

Participants will receive a free one-year family membership to the YMCA with this program to continue their rehabilitation after the program ends. 

Eau Claire YMCA – Fall 2023 Session: 

  • Sept. 11-Nov. 29, 2023, on Mondays and Wednesdays
  • 1-2:15pm or 4:30-5:45pm

To be eligible for the LIVESTRONG® program at the YMCAs, participants must be an adult cancer survivor (date of diagnosis does not matter). To gain the most of the program's benefits, participants should attend at least 80% of classes during the 12-week program, missing no more than five classes.
