During the somewhat darker days of 2020, when everything was suddenly shut down and the economy contracted at the most dramatic rate in history, Volume One lost more than half of our revenue for many months. (Today, while things are looking up, we’re frankly still working our way back.) It was at that time we let people know if they wanted to see our continued work in this community, we needed their help. That’s when we launched our first meaningful membership campaign, and by summer of 2020, nearly 1,000 individuals and families had answered that financial call. We were, and still are, deeply thankful.

That was nearly 18 months ago. Since then, we haven’t been back with a membership ask. While such programs have become permanent fixtures at community media organizations like ours across the country, some parts of the pandemic’s short-term impact on Volume One meant we just didn’t have the resources this year to put a really cool, sustainable, recurring member program in place yet.

If you’re able to become a member, thank you so much. If you’re not, we love you just the same. Either way, doing what we do here means a lot more when we know there’s a community out there that has our backs.

But recently a number of those 2020 members asked about offering support again this year, which was awesome to hear. They encouraged us to open up contributions again, and not to worry about the “swag” and boxes of goodies this time. And frankly, that’s easier! So we listened.

Today through the end of the year, we invite you to make a contribution to our ongoing work in the community at VolumeOne.org/membership. You’ll earn yourself a member discount at The Local Store, get added to the list of people who support us, and feel good knowing you’re making possible the free publications and websites, community events, and thought-provoking ideas, initiatives, and more that we’ve worked on for 19 years. If you’re able, thank you so much. If you’re not, we love you just the same. Either way, doing what we do here means a lot more when we know there’s a community out there that has our backs.

Happy Holidays, and here’s to what looks to be a very bright future for the Chippewa Valley in 2022.
