RUN, BUDDY, RUN! The annual Run Santa Run 5K walk/race is slated this year for Dec. 4, 2021. This photo, from December 2016, shows one of many costumes that racers choose to wear. This year, participants can choose among Santa, a polar bear, or an elf.

The annual Run Santa Run 5K race is off to the races (pun intended!) this winter and is slated to start at 10:30am on Saturday, Dec. 4, in Phoenix Park. Every year, proceeds from the race are donated to a local nonprofit organization, and this year’s recipient is the Chippewa Valley chapter of Girls on the Run.

This nonprofit organization is dedicated to teaching girls confidence and character by motivating them through physical exercise and prioritizing healthy habits.

“Girls on the Run encourages girls of all abilities to recognize their individual strengths,” their website reads, “and celebrate connections with others.”

This year’s Run, Santa, Run 5K is set to be a full-out festive explosion, complete with hot cocoa, sweet treats, and even costumes. With the option to choose among dressing as Santa, an Elf, or a polar bear, the streets of downtown Eau Claire will overflow with jolly good cheer on Dec. 4 as local folks run or walk the 5K.

Afterwards, check out the North Pole post-race party at The District Pub in Eau Claire. The first 25 racers to beat The Grinch will get a prize.

Registration is $45 per participant, but  that will increase after Dec. 3 – so register early! Participants receive exclusive character-specific medals, a long-sleeve character shirt, character hat and accessories, free digital race photos, and one free beverage token for a beer or non-alcoholic beverage at the post-race party.

Chocolate Kisses, mistletoe, cookies, and candy canes are strategically scattered throughout the race, as well as free hot cocoa.
