Rock on! Royal Credit Union’s annual Rock the Riverfront featuring the Charity Classic is slated for June 5-June 28, offering a virtual 10K, 2-mile, and half-mile race option that awards winners prizes while raising funds for local charities.

“We hope our event encourages people to get out and be active in our communities,” said Diana Rohlik, a financial education representative at RCU. “We have something for everyone.”

Since the race’s inception, it has raised over $300,000 for local charities. This year’s race partners with RunSignUp and the RaceJoy app to offer GPS alerts and tracking to enhance the “race-day feel.”

Racers record their time using the RaceJoy app any time from June 5-28 to qualify for first-, second-, and third-place awards in each age group. First-place male and female overall finishers for the 10K and two-mile races will each win a handcrafted award plate and a Scheel’s gift card.

Registration is $40 for adults and $20 for youth. Every registration includes a charity vote, and additional votes can be purchased for $2 each. The charity with the most votes will receive $15,000, the second-place winner will receive $7,500, and the third-place winner will receive $5,000. Participating charities include The Heyde Center for the Arts, the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild, and Northern Start Theatre Company of Rice Lake. Registration for the race is open through June 26, with more information available at www.rcu.org/race.

Through June 2, there is also a “Chalk Your Walk” initiative for community members to create hopscotch or obstacle courses on their driveways or sidewalks to “spread the importance of activity,” Rohlik said. Share a photo (with “Rock the Riverfront” written somewhere in your work!) for a chance to win $50! There will also be a Rock Hunt starting on June 21, with more details coming later this spring.
