Baking delectable treats is in Morgin Heacox’s blood. She fondly remembers a childhood spent helping out at her grandfather’s bakery, Myers Bakery in Arcadia, which has been slicing up donuts, cookies, rolls, and assorted breads since the 1920s.

It's in my heart to keep going.

In 1989, Heacox’s father took over the business, but later sold it, as the family found themselves wrapped up in other passion projects. After a few years away from baking, Heacox found herself longing to return to her roots, and launched Morg’s Bakery last year.

“It’s in my heart to keep going,” she said. This home-based bakery features cakes, cupcakes, and cookies, with a particular emphasis on sugar cookies expertly decorated with Royal Icing. “I want (people) to view it as edible art,” she said.

The bakery’s TikTok account, @morgsbakery, has garnered hundreds of views since it launched this past winter, showing time lapses of the baker’s work.

“We got a lot of hits on that,” she said. “I didn’t expect to get so much positive feedback immediately… I’m really happy with the way things are going.” Most popular, perhaps, are the home baker’s doggone good dog cookies, though her three-dimensional, detailed artwork is a hit too.
