For a town named after clear water, some locals may not clearly see all of the tremendous talent the area has to offer, but a resource has popped up to help them do just that.

Sawdust City Sounds is an online platform hosted by the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire that showcases current local music. The website allows independent musicians to submit their latest recorded material for listeners to discover, download, share, and enjoy a host of different types of artists who perform and record in the Eau Claire area.

The website, launched in 2018, is supported by the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library Endowment Fund, and continues to be a platform for local artists to bring their music to listeners who might not have discovered it otherwise.

A few of the artists whose music is available on the platform include The Nunnery, TeawhYB, Picard, Adrian Klenz, Greg Gilbertson, Peter Phippen, Ben Shaw, Nick Anderson and the Skinny Lovers, The Rattlenecks, Whale House, The Heart Pills, FM Down, and many more.

When the library was closed in March, library staff developed a way to continue supporting artists on the site through a new video series, “Sawdust City Sounds Like Home,” featuring original videos from Ben Shaw, Jim Pullman, Oddity, Rock Creek Song Dogs, and others. Musicians were offered a stipend to create videos shared on the platform, and the library has plans to expand their video series in the future.

This month marks the third open submission period for artists, and those whose records feature at least two songs or a minimum of ten minutes are invited to submit at least one track for consideration to be included in the collection. Artists who are selected by the team of local curators will be offered an honorarium of $50-200, depending on the number of tracks submitted or the length of the submission.

You can tune in at sawdustcitysounds.org or submit at sawdustcitysounds.org/submit through Oct. 31.
