UW-Stout provides the community with an array of opportunities and experiences, from guest speakers to theatrical productions. This fall, UW-Stout’s Furlong Art Gallery has a full schedule of exhibits featuring works by professional and student artists. Grab your art history buff uncle or peel your roommate away from Netflix and see amazing artistic expression at the Foster Art Gallery. Here’s what the semester holds:
FOGSTAND &&&&&& •Sept 18-Oct 20 • reception 5-7pm Thursday, Sept 21 • This multicultural exhibit hails from Taiwan and features contemporary and installation-based art primarily from Singapore, Taiwan, and South Korea. Contributors include Choon-Lin Joo, En-Man Chang, Jo-Mei Lee, Jin-Da Lin, Kai-Feng Chun, and Song-Yun Kim. The FOGSTAND Gallery & Studio is based in eastern Taiwan. This nonprofit organization aims to promote the creative side in their community with a rigorous and contemporary style.
Works on Paper and Time in Between • Nov 6-Dec 16 • reception 5-7pm Thursday, Nov 9 • Two different shows will be sharing the gallery. In the north side of the gallery, “Works on Paper” shows never-before-seen prints from the university’s permanent collection. Prints, drawings, and mixed media works from artists such as Larry Rivers, Lee Krasner, and William Bailey will be presented. Concurrently, organizer Tyler Helfrich – a UW-Stout alumnus with a BFA in studio art – will present “Time in Between.” This exhibit will be shown in the south gallery and will showcase artistic interpretations of the exhibit’s title. The 27 participating artists from around the country used various printing techniques such as etching and lithographing to express their unique styles.
Several student gallery shows are also slated for the fall semester: “Slip Ceramic Group Show” is Sept 22-29; “Art Education Group Show” from Sept 29-Oct 6; and “Advanced Sculpture Show” on Oct 6-16. The Furlong Art Gallery is located in Micheels Hall on the UW-Stout campus in Menomonie. It is open 10am-5pm Monday-Thursday, 10am-2pm Friday, noon-4pm on Saturday, and closed Sundays.
