Best of 2015 - Staff Pick: Best Rejuvenated Pathway

Tyler Griggs |

Winner: Eastside Hill Brick Path

Looking younger, fresher, and more lively than ever before, an Eastside Hill pathway had its surface exfoliated to reveal a brick pathway under inches of soil. The path, which begins at the end of Emery Street behind the Eau Claire Press Co. building in downtown Eau Claire, curls up the Eastside Hill’s forested slope for two blocks and intersects with the staircase behind the Park Tower Apartments before ending at the top of the hill at the end of Newton Street’s upper half. The upgrade was organized earlier this year as an Eagle Scout project by Memorial High School student Dan Ivankovic, who assembled a team of 60 to clear the path. A couple of years earlier, neighborhood volunteers had started the job by removing loads of brush from the slope.
