New Poliça Album Features Local Ties

Thom Fountain |

Poliça’s sophomore record, Shulamith, starts with a bang in the opening track “Chain My Name” – staccato synth notes ride above a heavy bed of bass and drums that create a ready-made dance track. The new album from the Minneapolis-based indie-pop group only builds from there, mixing funk-infused basslines and electronics with the drive of their two drummers (one of whom is Eau Claire native Drew Christopherson). The album – out Oct. 22 and available locally at Revival Records, 418 S. Barstow St. and The Local Store, 205 N. Dewey St. – also features Eau Claire by-way-of-Minneapolis production wizard Ryan Olson and a track with Justin Vernon. With Poliça’s constant energy and underlying drive, it’ll be tough for another local album to get you off your feet quite as much as Shulamith.
