Attention downtown businesses: If you’re considering rehabilitating an existing building or hope to pursue another brick-and-mortar project, DECI may be able to hook you up with some cash. They recently announced a new program that will distribute grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 each for projects including remodeling, alley improvements, expansions, loft renovations, etc. The money comes from the Clearwater Development Corp., which is funded by Xcel Energy and the city of Eau Claire. In awarding the grants, DECI says preference will be given to small businesses. In addition, businesses must be located in what the city Comprehensive Plan defines as downtown. Grant applications will be accepted through Dec. 31, 2015, or until all the funds have been disbursed.
