Visitors to downtown’s Saylon Seven might notice something different on April 7. The salon is hosting their second quarterly art show. Owner of the salon, Sabrina Spiegel-Kohrs, said her husband, Keith Kohrs, is the one behind the idea. He comes up with the themes of the art shows and gets in contact with local artists. With the plentiful wall space in the former Isabelle & Co., they can hang up to 50 different pieces. This quarter’s theme is Photography, and pieces from local artists – including Keith Kohrs, Phil Jagow, Andy Kawa, Isabelle Maunders, and Tom Gardner – will fill the walls of the spacious salon. All the pieces on display are for sale. Last quarter the theme was Tattoo Art, and they’re considering such future themes as Realism. Local art teacher Julie Brook has reserved the salon for a show in May to display her students’ work. When her husband first approached her with the idea, Kohrs was excited to create something different and unique. “We have been traveling and have been out there. We want people to think of it as bringing something unique and different and artistic to Eau Claire, bringing culture to Eau Claire,” says Sabrina. She hopes the art shows will bring people downtown, supporting the community, and into her shop for something other than “just hair.” Much like the local jewelry Saylon Seven sells every day from talented designer Tanara Schweisthal, originally from Brazil.
