A Massachusetts Chapter of Food Not Bombs.

How about doing something extra economy- and environment-friendly this summer? Serve up vegan meals to those in need at local parks with the local branch of Food Not Bombs. John Patterson started the local chapter of the national organization last November, after his involvement with the Twin Cities chapter. The group meets each Saturday at his home to discuss what they can do to help end hunger and reduce waste in military spending. Food Not Bombs is dedicated to non-violence and ending the occupations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Palestine, along with supporting actions that are against the globalization of the economy, restrictions to the movements of people, and the destruction of the Earth. There are chapters in the Americas, Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, and the Middle East, and each one recovers food that would have been thrown out and fixes vegan and vegetarian dishes for the community. Food Not Bombs works with several other eco-friendly activist groups and provides meals to protestors at government conventions. Recently the Eau Claire group began actively giving back to the community by hosting a concert event and distributing free, fresh, vegan meals in local parks to community members in need. Patterson decided to form this group as a positive activist avenue for people of all ages in the area, which he feels is very important and saw a need for here in Eau Claire.
