Bar Plans 'Story Slam'

Kinzy Janssen |

For years, stories have been somewhat left out. In the slam scene, that is. The Pourhouse is filling that void on Jan. 2 at 6:30pm with their first ever (and the first we’ve heard of in the Valley) story slam. The framework of the event is the same as a poetry slam: audience members volunteer to be judges, and interested storytellers must register beforehand for a spot. Then the shenanigans begin. Any sort of story is welcome at the mic, but the ones that stir up emotions – whether it be laughter or awe or empathy – usually fare best. A cash prize of $35 will be awarded to the first place finisher, with gift certificates going to second and third place contenders. Up to 10 participants will be accepted by calling Patrick at 495-5245 or emailing thepourhouse@live.com.
