The Deedles
Kansas band plays double shot of Halloween shows
Call it electro grass, call it grit rock; you can categorize The Deedles of Emporia, Kansas, quite a few ways. But this Halloween at The Mousetrap you can just call them Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion. ⨓We like to do a theme for our Halloween shows,” said Garrett Briggeman, who plays guitar and banjo in the foursome. “This year is Somewhere Over the Rainbow so we get to be the characters.” â¨Though the set will include some originals, most songs will be covers with a color reference in the name: Black Hole Sun, Purple Haze, White Wedding, etc. “It’s kind of a rare opportunity for us to play the songs that inspired us to be musicians,” said Briggeman, who co-writes the songs with his wife Jamie. â¨Originally hailing from the Kansas bluegrass scene as The DeWayn Brothers, The Deedles have been shredding through the Valley for years now and have been regulars at The Trap. The group switched up styles and their moniker a few years ago for a grittier sound, but still do some original bluegrass, albeit with a rockier lilt. ⨓We have fun on stage; I think people can see that in our shows.”⨠Along with Briggeman, The Deedles are headed by the powerful voice of Jamie with Josh Finley on drums and Adam Smith on bass. Together they offer a high-energy live show that is still reminiscent of their foot-stomping past.⨠Halloween at the Mousetrap will include drink specials, a costume contest, prizes and, of course, good music.
