Local Man Donates Toothpick Holder Collection to UWEC

UWEC alumnus Marvin Larson

UWEC just received 450 toothpick holders. No, not for students to use after a cafeteria run. These toothpick holders are special, and represent a lifelong art collection for alumnus Marvin Larson. Larson had about 1,200 pieces he has stocked since around 1970, his favorites hailing from China and Russia. Not wanting to break up the collection through selling to antique dealers, he donated them to his alma mater. Valued between $5 and $400 a piece, the holders are on display in McIntyre Library through summer, and a permanent display is in the Heritage Room of The Dulany with another permanent display in the works for the Skylight Lounge in Davies Center.
