I recently attended my first neighborhood association meeting. In front of a gathering of roughly 50 people, a parade of guests relevant to our immediate community lined up for questions – a police officer who works our beat, the superintendent of schools, the city’s public works director, and more. It was educational to step outside my own head and hear the concerns and issues my neighbors thought were important. It reminded me just how many different personalities make up not only an entire city, but even just the few blocks around you. I often think that everyone in my neighborhood must be just like me, but of course that’s not the case. Regardless, I met some neighbors, got some new perspective, and enjoyed a couple of homemade nut bars. So that’s a triple win.
