Frankenstein Crew Heads to Fringe Fest

Chapter 13 Productions, the theater company that brought an original version of Frankenstein to the Heyde Center last fall, will take to the road this summer. Their destination is the 17th annual Minnesota Fringe Festival, an 11-day theater extravaganza held in various venues throughout Minneapolis and St. Paul. During one of the early weeks of August, Chapter 13 founder Lot Turner will see his original script, Down Devil’s Backbone, realized as a one-act play. Set in mid-20th century Indiana and based on true events, the piece explores the repercussions of a businessman’s illicit liaison with a 16-year-old girl. The cast of three includes some of the same Chippewa Valley residents that appeared in Frankenstein. Turner described his play as “very dark and emotionally charged.” This bodes well for the ensemble’s Fringe performance, as the festival strives to “connect adventurous artists with adventurous audiences,” according to its website.
