On April 1, thanks to warm weather and a big crowd, we had probably the best April Fools’ Day Pillow Fight since we started the little tradition in 2006. My favorite parts of the event are the groups of costumed fighters who show up together with a theme. Some of them may just be in the official t-shirt of their club or group, like the UWEC Forensics team – who probably brought the biggest squad of fighters. And some – like the Berman Family, who have been to every pillow fight since the beginning – grab a bunch of random and colorful pads, wigs, helmets, and boots. The locals behind EC’s anime convention, NoBrandCon, came decked out in duct tape warrior gear. The Chippewa Valley Roller Girls were there in their full gear too (minus the skates). And a couple of random Cheetah Girls even drove up from LaCrosse. But the best part was when, after the whistle  blew and the fight began, four guys came charging out from behind the fence in neon green body (and head) suits to join the fight, only to disappear into the neighborhood as quickly as they arrived. That’s the stuff that makes a good fight. See you next year.
