Joe Knight Book Collects Reflections on Winter in WI
Joe Knight’s award-winning essays on nature and conservation have appeared in the Leader-Telegram for 27 years. But while his newest book, Frozen Assets: Reflections on Winter in Northern Wisconsin, is a collection inspired by that work, the author calls its contents “stories.” This is the truer name. Rather than tell you what Wisconsin’s winters are all about, or fall into the usual snares – tedious descriptions of how white the snow, how bitterly cold the air – Knight exemplifies everyday motions through a series of first-person vignettes. Revealing their potential, he reminds us in simple majesty that winter isn’t so barren.
