Hey, you guys need to get in line because it’s my turn at the Jim Carrey podium. The Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild’s latest show features a cast of six local performers playing multiple roles.

We’re all heading down that road. Or are on it. Or are at the rest stop a few miles down the way. Middle age, like all life’s great transition periods, can be uncomfortable. But a new musical revue by Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild is trying to ease our pain. Mid Life! The Crisis Musical takes a humorous and sometimes tragic look at that late, great hissy fit that is a mid-life crisis.

“Yes, it deals with the issues of being middle aged – divorce, adult kids, menopause,” says Bob Carr, a founding member of CVTG and the director of Mid Life. “But you don’t have to be living it to enjoy it. This is about life in general – the pains and uncertainties we all face.”

Started in 2006 by Jim and Bob Walton, Mid Life! ran for 19 months at The Chanhassen Dinner Theatres in Minneapolis. Carr’s show features a cast of six performers from the Eau Claire community playing multiple roles.

As baby boomers crest this next wave in life we are all going to have to start taking a good, hard look at the inevitabilities of life – from hair loss to “senior moments” and beyond. Most subjects in the show stay pretty PG, but you may want to have a very special talk with Junior before his first proctologist joke.

“We will all be there one day,” says Carr. “Why not laugh at ourselves a little?”

At least you’ll be in a good mood after the show when you can’t remember where the car is parked.
