A Memorable Production
UWEC Players’ completely original play Candid
Memories materialize in Candid, the newest production from student theater group, the UWEC Players. The original work was written by senior CJ Krueger. The script focuses on something everyone has fantasized about, the chance to put the puzzle pieces of memory together. Members of the Players brainstormed on the topic of memory as the inspiration for Candid, during which they “stumbled on a common theme, which was regret,” Krueger shared. In Candid, the main character’s friends venture into his memory to put order to the skeletons in his closet. Krueger explained, “That’s what our play ended up being about, a bit of an epic about love and loss and the mistakes we make when we don’t have the time to pay full attention to those who are closest to us.” This is the first full-length, original production by the Players, meaning that every part, from the script to the blocking, was generated by the Players. The Players’ commitment to originality in Candid reflects the group’s mission to provide opportunities to UWEC performers and creators. The Players are a university recognized student organization headed by Krueger and Candid director, senior Tyler Morris. Other projects by the Players include the 24-Hour Project, which took place in April and The Dispute, which played last August.
