Youth Literature Book Club (for Adults) Starts in Eau Claire

Kinzy Janssen |

Not everyone who enjoys children’s books are … well, children. The novel concept has spawned a “Chapter & Verse Book Club” book club in Eau Claire, aimed at adults who have an affinity for youth literature. “Closeted” children’s book readers, educators, literacy advocates, and members of an older generation (looking to understand current youth material), have comprised the participants of similar clubs in Minnesota. Local writers and illustrators of children’s books have also been energized by the concept. Discussions will center on two books per session, and will be facilitated by Eau Claire resident Marsha Qualey. Qualey has penned award-winning youth books and teaches in the MFA program at Hamline University. Sponsored by Children’s Literature Network and Crossroad Bookstore, the specialized book club met for the first time on Thursday, April 16, and will continue to meet on the third Thursday of each month from 6:30 to 8pm, at Crossroad Bookstore, 301 S Barstow St, Eau Claire. Please call ahead to reserve a chair.
