In the collegiate world, first it was laptops, then it was iPods. Now Ohio State University’s College of Medicine is giving its students an iPod Touch. Given credit for the idea of distributing Apple’s jackpot portable media player and Wi-Fi mobile platform, third-year medical student Justin Harper said its use will allow him to listen to lectures during his school commute and put current medical info in his hands. The giveaway looks pretty nice to today’s college students, but don’t expect area universities to ride this wave so soon; the effectiveness of new age electronic devices in post-secondary education is not yet proven.
