Let’s Have a Ball, Y’all!
bipartisan inaugural ball hopes to inspire change
If ever there was an event for the people of the Chippewa Valley to get together for the betterment of society, the All-American Peace Inaugural Ball is it! On January 24, at Seymour Town Hall, people of all ages, backgrounds, and political viewpoints are encouraged to attend the Ball hosted by creator Mark Ruddy. Ruddy was inspired by Barack Obama’s campaign theme of “change,” and now that Obama has won the presidential election, Ruddy would like to see Eau Claire take on that same theme. This is an opportunity for people from all walks of life to get together and network with each other. “Let’s get ready to roll up our sleeves and be the change we want to see and let’s work together for that change,” says Ruddy. There will be a potluck to kick off the event, along with entertainment from the Sue Orfield Band. International and meditative dancing will follow. Ruddy hopes to bring people together to “advance our agenda more solidly for peace and justice.” For those who think they have two left feet, the international dances are easy enough to follow and children are welcome to participate! The event is free, but donations are encouraged, the funds of which will go towards covering the event costs. Dress however you’d feel comfortable, whether that be black tie or jeans; Ruddy says “nothing is wrong, come as you are.”
