Singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin is back out on national tour, promoting her first original music since 2001. After taking a break from her musical career to start a family, Colvin debuted her new album, These Four Walls, this summer. Acoustic guitar eases into the folksy rock album, a tribute to Colvin’s fresh perspective, which is reflected in her calm vocals and mature lyrics. All but one of Colvin’s new songs she co-wrote with John Leventhal, musician and producer, whom Colvin has worked with for over 20 years. The Midwestern artist is probably best known for her top-ten pop single, “Sunny Came Home,” off the album A Few Small Repairs. The works earned Colvin Grammy awards for Song of the Year and Record of the Year in 1998. For These Four Walls, Colvin collaborated with two other Grammy artists, Patty Griffin and Marc Cohn, as well as singer Teddy Thompson and steel pedal player Greg Leisz. Colvin’s performance at the State Theatre will be part of the Women Rock breast cancer awareness event, which takes place across down the street at the Ramada on the same date. The American Cancer Society will benefit from a portion of the proceeds from the event.
