This Weekend: Dorothy lands in Menomonie

The Menomonie Theater Guild’s production of The Wizard of Oz will be staged at the Mabel Tainter Memorial Theater through March 7. In case you where raised in the woods by wild though gentle coyotes, here’s the synopsis: Little Dorothy Gale of Kansas, like so many girls her age, dream of what lies over the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away over the rainbow to another world. Come join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion and Toto as they travel the universe of Dorothy's imagination. Looks like MTG’s will have lots of cool costumes and song numbers in store. Saturday has showings at 2pm and 7:30pm, Sunday has a 2pm show. Photos. Details.

ART: For the Love of It | Artist Jason Anhorn's new 'For The Love Of It' series features a positive take on subjects ranging from candy to sexy ladies. The show will be hanging through March 10. (Tangled Up In Hue; normal biz hours; photos)

HIP-HOP: The Black and White Affair | In the event's first year, patrons packed the Stones Throw to capacity and had to turn people away. Now local group Frozen Tundra has put together an even bigger hip-hop event featuring local groups like themselves and Blinded, plus Minneapolis acts The Blend and Kanswer, as well as big regional DJs and the whole place (patrons included) decked out in black and white. (House of Rock; Sat/9pm)

FUNK: Duncan Ninja | Duncan Ninja is a funk/hip hop group that plays music by Stevie Wonder, Raphael Saadiq, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, The Roots and more. This hot group is made up of eleven members: five hazardous horn players, a raunchy rhythm section, and two sultry singers. (Grand Little Theater; Sat/8:30pm)

Saturday: See it all. Sunday: As well.
