When it closed in 1966, the Frank J. Hess and Sons Copperage was the last in America that manufactured white oak beer kegs. Old-timers will remember the storied cracker barrel, the sugar barrel and the flour barrel, the dried fish, oysters, herring and other food stuffs that were packed, shipped and displayed in wooden barrels.
