As locals know, Shane Leonard has been playing and touring as a percussionist and multi-instrumentalist with several bands for the past few years, bands like Field Report, The Stray Birds, and not to mention his solo project Kalispell – which spent last year touring around the country. He's currently playing drums with J.E. Sunde.
Today, in support of Kalispell's 2016 release Printer's Son, Leonard is releasing this gorgeous live video from Hive Studio, a recording studio in Eau Claire owned and operated by engineer Brian Joseph (Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens).
Leonard says ...
"The touring of this record was a special experience for me, because not only did the trio do an excellent job of distilling arrangements that are densely orchestrated on Printer's Son, but Kevin and Steve (bass and piano) have also been friends of mine since high school. When we started rehearsing the material, there was no period of adjustment - we fell into a very intuitive and trusting dynamic immediately, which is rare among ensembles. I'm glad we captured that chemistry here."
The video was shot by Joshua Ford. You can find Kalispell on Iowa-based label Cartouche Records. Facebook.
