While Hive & Hollow has become known for its stunning customizable floral arrangements, curated antiques and bar, the downtown Menomonie storefront plans to add another layer to its in-house ambiance: a rotation of live music performances.
Occasional live music events have been part of Hive & Hollow’s evolution in their new downtown Menomonie space (222 Main St. E). Yet, this summer will offer a new monthly “Summer Music Series” with local acts – from jazz to classical, folk and even Irish tunes.
Performing acts this summer include Dean Langby, Carsten Poss and Ralph Suechting on June 6; Aidan and Emma on July 3, plus Levi Freeman and Jay Collins on July 17; Trio Viva Strings on Aug. 1; QuinnElizabeth on Sept. 12.
Charis Collins, the bar manager at Hive & Hollow, said she has been delighted by the acoustics in their dual venue-shop space; musicians have previously play toward the front of the shop’s entrance, surrounded by plants and dimly-lit lamps and lanterns.
“Our configuration allows intent listeners the chance to sit closer, while those who want a more casual experience can sit further back in the space,” Collins said. “Many regulars show up, and there’s a strong sense of fun and community when we have live music in the house.”
Patrons who already stop through the floral shop and bar on a regular basis – some of whom are performers in the summer lineup – bring a “special joy and energy to the space,” she continued.
Collins anticipates that the robust community spirit currently felt at the shop will flourish in the summer months ahead. The regional performers in the summer lineup were chosen specifically to mirror the “Hive vibe,” he noted.
“Some of these (musicians) have strong local followings and some are newer to the scene and looking for a welcoming place to get started,” Collins said. “They all are talented musicians who share our vision for a stronger community and a better world.”
A suggested cover charge will be made available at each show in the Summer Music Series, with more updates to come through Hive & Hollow’s social media platforms.
Hive & Hollow (222 Main St. E., Menomonie) will host its debut Summer Music Series from June 6 through Sept. 12. Visit the floral shop and bar’s Facebook page (@hiveandhollow.earth) to view the complete schedule and ongoing announcements.
