From May 7-10 in the JAMF Theatre at the Pablo Center at the Confluence (128 Graham Ave., Eau Claire) the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild (CVTG) presented its latest musical, "Grumpy Old Men."
Drawn from the 1993 comedic film of the same name, two "curmudgeonly neighbors" have been at each other's throats for decades in the stage adaptation. A rivalry between Max Goldman and John Gustafson – the musical's protagonists – intensifies when a mutual love interest comes along in the production.
Eau Claire's own iteration of the musical – starring Don Hodgins as Max Goldman and John Gustafson as John Gustafson (yes, he really does share the same name!) – captured the "crotchety characters through twinkling humor, great songs and the affectionate depiction of a small town that feels like home," CVTG writes.
