A timeless whodunit production – featuring four local actors – brings mystery and mayhem to the stage in "The 39 Steps." Presented by the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild (CVTG) at The Grand Theatre (102 W Grand Ave.), the production has completed its opening night and will continue showing locally until Jan. 18.
A combination of stories inspired by Alfred Hitchcock and spy novellas – featuring Monty Python-inspired absurdity – "The 39 Steps" offers laugh-out-loud scenes for locals who love the "magic of theatre," the guild shared.
The original screenplay reveals the story of a Canadian civilian in London, who becomes swept up in preventing a collective of spies known as "The 39 Steps" from stealing British military information.
"A cast of up to four actors play 150 zany characters in a story packed with non-stop laughs that includes a plane crash, handcuffs, and some good old-fashioned romance culminating in a death-defying finale," the CVTG said.
Tickets for "The 39 Steps" are on sale now ($28/adults and $15/students) and can be purchased online on cvtg.org or by calling The Grand Theatre box office at 715-832-7529. Showtimes include 7:30pm from Jan 8-10 and 15-17; 1:30pm on Jan. 11 and 18.
