Eau Claire was host to the first community powwow in several years this past weekend on Saturday, Sept. 21, originally slated to be held at Carson Park before rain moved the festivities to Valley Sports Academy in Lake Hallie. The powwow Grand Entry began around 1pm, and the event was also host to educational and informational booths as well as inter-tribal dances and artist workshops. The event was described as an “inclusive powwow for healing” and welcomed all to attend, including those who had never been to a powwow before. Despite the change in location, hundreds of people attended the Gathering of the Waters Powwow, sponsored by Mayo Clinic Health Systems and organized by the Supporting Indigenous Peoples Mayo Employee Resource Group.
