“When I write, I can create my own world.”

“I get an idea and like to see how it develops.”

These are comments from students selected in the past to read their original writing as part of the Chippewa Valley Book Festival Young Writers Showcase.

This fall, the Young Writers Read Showcase will be the kick-off event for the Chippewa Valley Book Festival, which runs Oct. 24-29. The festival offers the community the chance to discover the “how” and “why” of books and their authors, and to interact personally with writers whose work is drawing attention locally, nationally, and internationally.

Selected young writers will share their work on the stage of the Grand Theatre on Sunday, Oct. 24. Young people in third through eighth grades are encouraged to submit their original work by Saturday, Sept. 25.

Up to 24 prose or poetry, fiction, or nonfiction submissions will be selected. In addition to having their writing publicly recognized, winners will receive a gift certificate to Dotters Books, and perhaps the chance to see their work in print.
