Carving active family time out of a short Wisconsin summer requires a strategy. Parents have commitments, and your kids may want to hang out with their friends in between summer programs and camps. Summer flies by fast. Here are some helpful tips to move your family through a successful summer:
1. Schedule a family adventure one day each week at a new location.
The activity can be as simple as taking the family on a run or walk to explore the beautiful parks and trails of the Chippewa Valley. Nature walks including those at Beaver Creek Reserve, and walking the Sculpture Tour in Eau Claire or visiting the trails of Irvine Park and the zoo in Chippewa Falls are fun options!
2. Check local event calendars for family friendly active opportunities.
Joining a fun run or walk for charity is a great way for the family to exercise together. You can also dance away a warm summer evening with your family at a summer concert or find your family’s inner yogi at High 5 Free yoga, both at Phoenix Park in Eau Claire.
3. Plan neighborhood activities.
Whether it’s in the form of friendly competition or strictly for fun, plan your activities. Organize neighborhood competitions that include hula-hoops, hopscotch, or jump ropes!
4. Find exercise in everyday tasks.
Grab your bikes instead of hopping in the car. The entire family will be eager to jump on their bikes and venture to their favorite summer spots, especially if those spots include your local ice cream shop! Yes, it’s summer, it’s OK to enjoy.
