The Menomonie Theater Guild produced A Christmas Story in 2013. This year, the Chippewa Valley Theater Guild will take on the classic at the Grand Theater.

Let’s face it – with the holiday season on the doorstep, there’s only so much time indoors you and your kids can take. But just because it’s getting colder doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a night out. Check out one of the many holiday plays put on by local talent. 

At the Heyde Center, the weekend of Dec. 9, you can catch Ole and Lena’s Family Christmas. This year Lena has invited the whole family, even her snooty cousin Mildred from Edina. Ole wants nothing to do with it, but Lena wants him to dress up like Santa and hand out presents. Can Sven get him out of it? 

The weekends of Dec. 2 and 9, you can catch three different Christmas plays in the Chippewa Valley. The holiday classic, A Christmas Story, is coming to stage at The Grand Little Theater. All the elements from the beloved movie are here: the temperamental furnace, the playground lamp post, Scut Farcus, the Red Ryder BB Gun, and the infamous leg lamp. 

At the Oxford, you can catch ECCT’s Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells. Junie B is upset that Tattletale May keeps ruining her fun in preparation for the holiday gift exchange. Fortunately, she draws her nemesis’s name for secret Santa and makes a plan to get her back. 

For a heartwarming story of family at Christmastime, you can catch the Menomonie Theater Guild’s A Little House Christmas at the Mabel Tainter. The play highlights values like generosity, kindness, and humanity to help get you in the true Christmas spirit. Spend a night at the theater this holiday season and enjoy these great shows.
