When Wisconsin Gives You Snow, Make Ice Cream

Shannon Paulus |

A few winters ago, the kids and I made a big bucket of snow ice cream. I hadn’t tasted it since elementary school, but we agreed it’s delicious. And easy. And fun. And you should try it. If you happen a upon a snowy weekend, follow the simple recipe here, grab some spoons, and maybe even snuggle up for a movie. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. – Shannon Paulus

Ingredients

• 8 cups fresh snow (packed lightly in the cup when you measure it)
• 3/4 to 1 cup milk (or cream, if you’re feeling decadent)
• 1/3 cup sugar (or your favorite sweetener) to taste
• 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

Place the snow in a large bowl, and sprinkle the sugar on top of it. Combine the milk with the vanilla, and pour the milk mixture over the snow. Stir it all together well, adding more milk if you need it, until it’s well-combined and a creamy texture. Enjoy your treat right away, or cover it and put it in the freezer for 30 minutes to firm it up a bit before serving.
