Not On My Campus: UWEC Unites Against Bigotry
UWEC administration, faculty, and students took a stand against bigotry and discrimination Thursday with a rally sponsored by the Chancellor’s Office. In a blog post on the university’s website, Chancellor James Schmidt organized the rally in response to learning of racist incidents occurring on campus in the past couple of weeks. The event drew large crowds of support, attendees signed a pledge of commitment to fight back against bigotry on campus and in the community, and the university’s bias incident response team handed out instructional material on how to intervene as a bystander. Online support for the initiative has been spreading through social media with #notonmycampus and you can see photos and videos of the event on UWEC’s Facebook page. “This is not behavior that I can or will condone — by any Blugold,” Schmidt said. “Our campus and our community can be so much better. Let's make it better, together.”
