It’s hard to believe, but it’s election season once more, folks, and two of the five Eau Claire City Council members up for re-election on the April 7 ballot will have competition. In the Fourth District – which includes most of the city west of the Chippewa River except for the Randall and Carson park areas – incumbent Bob Von Haden faces a challenge from Sandra McKinney. Von Haden, a retired accountant, has served 12 years on the council, and is currently on the Economic Policy Advisory Committee, the Waterways and Parks Commission, and the Special Assessment Deferment Commission. McKinney is a minister at Unity Christ Center in Eau Claire, as well as past-president of Junior League of Eau Claire and a charter member of the Eau Claire Women’s Business Network. In the Fifth District   – which encompasses the downtown, Randall Park, North River Fronts, and part of the Eastside Hill – incumbent Andrew Werthmann will be challenged by Che Stone Parrott. Werthmann is a five-year incumbent who works as a political and community organizer as serves on the Waterways and Parks Commission, the Advisory Commission on Sustainability, and the Putnam Park Commission. Parrott is a political newcomer who works at the L.E. Phillips Career Development Center. Meanwhile, three other incumbents – David Duax (First District), David Klinkhammer (Second District), and Kathy Mitchell (Third District) – will run for re-election unopposed. (If you were thinking of running, the deadline for filing the necessary paperwork was Tuesday, Jan. 6, although you can always try running as a write-in.) Not sure which district you live in?
