Things may be changing in the Chippewa Falls bar scene if a recently proposed ordinance passes. If passed, it’d require all Class B liquor license holders to install cameras near the entrances, exits, and check outs of the establishment. According to a WPR story, "Bar owners would also be required to keep recordings for three weeks for police officers to review at any time." The Chippewa Falls Police Department (who proposed the ordinance) hopes the cameras will aide with investigations, help the customers and protect the business itself. If approved, the ordinance wouldn’t go into effect until next January, and the CFPD would give plenty of time for businesses to buy the cameras. But not everyone is for the cameras. City Council Member Mike Hanke told WPR, “I understand the positive influence it can do with saving a lot of time for detectives to investigate and solve certain crimes but, then again, I am somewhat reserved about the language that was in the proposed ordinance regarding forcing just one type of business owner to do something.”
